Gift Big, Shop Small in Kansas City this Holiday Season

The Holidays are upon us! This time of year people are exchanging gifts for every celebration they attend. While it’s easy to pop into your closest big box store and grab some gifts, keeping KC local is what we’re all about here. Check out the handy guide below and support a local small business this season.

Hammerpress

Hammerpress is kind of hidden but worth the hunt. What started as a printing company has expanded into retail. With a selection of handmade, artisan goods from around the country as well as printed goods from right inside the shop, finding holiday goodies of all shapes and sizes will be a piece of cake.

Raygun

Raygun is an irreverent tshirt shop based in Des Moines. Their flagship store in KC is in the Crossroads district. Creating shirts emblazoned with a good mix of feminist, social justice, puns, and locally-themed sayings, just heading into the store will have you laughing.

Urban Provisions

Handpicked goods from small artisan makers and artists line the walls and sit on tables inside the bright, cheery storefront located directly next to the Local Pig in the East Bottoms. While it may be a little out of the way, Urban Provisions is worth the trek. Inside you’ll find unique items that are absolutely perfect for anyone in your life (but especially the hipsters).

West Bottoms Antiques + River Market Antiques

The absolute top way to be friendly to our earth? Second-hand goods. The West Bottoms is full of antique stores and, if you hit it on First Friday, you can also wander through Bella Patina. River Market Antiques is three floors full of booths containing different curiosities, handpicked by vintage lovers around the city.

KC Urban Potters

Nestled in the heart of Westport, KC Urban Potters (KCUP) is a collective of full-time artists. They create one-of-a-kind pottery that is both useful and beautiful. Whether you’re needing a gift for a party host or to treat yourself to a new, handmade coffee mug for enjoying this season, you’ll find it here.

Hand & Land

Located in Leawood, Hand & Land is taking on Bath and Body Works and Lush for a seat at the self-care table. They’re committed to carrying products free of the “Toxic Ten” including parabens, petrolatum, 14 dioxane, and artificial musks. Lip balms for stockings, soaps for gifting, cleaners for making sure your home is sparkling for company...Hand & Land has everything!

ECO-FRIENDLY TIP:

Wrap gifts in brown kraft paper, which can be recycled, or play with wrapping gifts up in fabric. The less waste we can create, the more beautiful we can keep our world.

Happy Holidays from Naturally KC!
