Get Outside! Fall Activities for Kansas City Lovers
The shift from Summer to Autumn in Kansas City is always an interesting thing to watch. One day it’s hot, one day it’s cool. In the morning you’re wearing pants and a hoodie, by midday you’re losing layers and trying to find air conditioning! As we move to cooler weather, getting outside is important. We all know we’ll see the chill of winter soon enough. Lucky for us, KC has some amazing opportunities to get out and about to enjoy all our area has to offer.
We are so fortunate in our area to have a wealth of Fall Festivals! From way up north all the way to way south, festivals are taking place all over the metro. With activities for young and old, local vendors, and a general feeling of fun, everyone can find something to do while wandering around one of the many events that are held.
Here is a huge list of all the fall events in KC.
PUMPKIN AND APPLE PICKING
From Red Barn Farm in Weston to Wagon Wheel Orchard, to our family's favorite, Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins, pumpkin patches and apple orchards are all over the place! Pumpkins are not only awesome for a natural way to add some fall charm to your home, sugar pie pumpkins can be roasted and made into a made-from-scratch Pumpkin Pie or Pumpkin Bread to share with friends. Apple Picking is great to have one-ingredient snacks. A related alternative is the Louisburg Cider Mill! Grab a Cider Donut (everything in moderation, right?) and watch fresh-pressed cider bottled before taking it home to enjoy.
First Fridays still go strong throughout the cooler months. Based in the Crossroads, it has expanded to businesses, galleries, and spaces all across the downtown area. Head to the Crossroads to see world-class art and be in the hustle and bustle of the city. Pop over to the West Bottoms to browse amazing antiques and locally-made goods at places like Good JuJu, Hello Sailor, and Bella Patina. No matter what you love, you’ll find something interesting and awesome taking place the first Friday of each month (and all weekend long as well!)
While parks are open year-round, sometimes we forget and replace park trips with all the fall events in KC. The parks are arguably the most beautiful in Autumn! With the combination of cool breezes, sunshine, and the beautiful colors of the turning leaves, keep Kansas City’s gorgeous parks in mind when you’re looking to get outside this season. Bundle up, grab a coffee, and take your kiddos or fur kiddos out to run around.
There are some people who would say that Kansas City is at it’s most lovely during the Fall months. As the weather continues to get cooler and we enter the season of holidays on holidays, take a moment to relax and enjoy all KC has to offer before it gets busy!
